Last week Becky Catlin (Trust Literacy Lead) and Sam Barnsley (Deputy Head of Teach West London / Trust Leadership Training Lead / ELP Project Lead) excitingly presented at the DfE’s RISE Conference on Raising Attainment.
The topic of focus for Becky and Sam was “Whole School Approaches to Reading”. They highlighted how we have developed our rationale for a whole school literacy strategy and how the leadership structure is set up to achieve quality literacy delivery across the whole curriculum.
They shared practical strategies for improving reading outcomes, highlighting how our whole-school CPD builds teacher confidence, and they discussed effective screening and diagnostic tools for identifying literacy needs. Case studies were used to illustrate the impact of targeted interventions.
The session concluded with a look ahead at the next steps in developing literacy support across schools.
Their presentation was very well received, generating strong interest from attendees. We are looking forward to working with several partner schools who contacted us as a result of this presentation.
The importance of this work was highlighted today (15th October) by the Education Secretary, the Rt Hon Bridget Phillipson MP, during her keynote address at the Confederation of School Trusts' annual conference.
