On Thursday, 26th June two outstanding cricketing students from William Perkin CofE High School, Veer Patel and Veer Pawar, were invited to Lords Cricket Ground for the launch of the new National State School Cricket competition – the Knight-Stokes Cup. They were in vaunted company with such sporting legends as Michael Vaughan, Mark Nicholas, Jay Boothroyd and Matt Dawson in attendance as well as our very own Head of Cricket, Sajid Mahmood. Sajid was part of an esteemed panel that were asked for thoughts and opinions on the new competition and how it would positively affect cricket development in state schools.
In addition to this, both Veers and Sajid along with the Trust Director of Sport, Dave Sargent, were all featured in a promotional video that was shown on the BBC and Sky.
The video can be seen here, KS Cup V4 on Vimeo, and shows how valued and prominent William Perkin CofE High School has become with regards to state school cricket on a national level.
It was an outstanding day out with the students relishing the opportunity to talk to some of the greats in the prestigious ‘Lords Long Room’. Congratulations to the students, and to Sajid all of whom have worked extremely hard to make William Perkin the state school cricket giant that it is.
